Westwood
Middle School is proud to be able to introduce an innovative
and helpful approach in teaching students positive home practice
habits.
In the past, we have asked instrumental music students to record
their practice time on sheets of paper now stapled in the front
cover of their lesson books. We have found this process cumbersome
and it does not represent the end goal of practicing, to allow
students to become independent learners. Middle level instrumental
music education is involved in teaching effectiveness and efficiency
when playing at home and Lesson Logs provides a much better direction
for our students. We will pilot this system for the third quarter
and if everything works correctly, we will switch to Lesson Logs
as our primary practice accounting method. If you are an instructor
from another music program interested in hearing more about this
application, please click here.
Begin to use Lesson Logs by clicking on the graphic above. You
have received your username and password from class. Once you
are logged in, you will be brought to the page you see below. You
may click on areas in the Navigation Menu for
instructions and comments.
Lesson Log Home
The calendar will display Practice Logs created by
students for the current month. This is explained below. When
students have a lesson in school a Lesson Log is created. When
clicked,
this link will show points, grades, and comments earned from
that lesson. The upper right hand box displays practice time totals
and weekly average. It also compares the student to averages
in
the band they play in and the sections in that band. Contact
information for the lesson teacher in found in the lower right
hand box.
